Monday Musings ……………. November 10, 2008

Wow! Already the second full week in November. Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’, into the future… (if you didn’t do it already you must go back and sing that last part because I was singing it as I wrote it – classic Steve Miller band). But really, isn’t it amazing how quickly time goes by? Christmas is not even around the corner right now – it’s like next week in my mind.

I thought about the way time flies the other day when i looked at a picture of my children. It could not have been more than 6 years ago, but the change in them is so great. They really do grow into being their own person so very quickly. I also think about the way time flies by as I watch the children and youth around our church. I even spoke to one of our college students who was excited that she and others would be at the same school next year (some transferring to where others are already). She mentioned they would just have their own little “youth group” at that school – they had all been together in the youth group at Asbury. I had to explain to her that she no longer fit the category of youth, she was really “young adult” now. Time keeps on slippin…

I watched last night (Sunday) as the kids got ready for the LiveWires Kid’s Club. They were moving boxes, rolling carts, setting up tables – they were having a blast doing all the prep work for the activities they had planned. I’ve been here 2 1/2 years now and a couple of those kids were itty bitty when I got here – now they’re taking charge and showing others what to do, and soon they will be headed into the youth area and on toward young adult status. Time keeps on slippin…

I guess my point is that we have so little time to influence our children and youth and to show them the love of God. We have so little time to let them know how valuable they are and how God loves them as they are. We have so little time to let them see our lives and to see our faith. We can’t hold back. We can’t take our time in making decisions about the future. We can’t put off the plans to step up our ministry commitment and really engage the children and the youth and their families. They won’t be children and youth for very long. Time keeps on slippin….

Holy high five to you, Mike.

  1. How true, how true!! There are no truer words and we must keep reminding ourselves of how fast time really does fly by!
